Agata Agatowska, a Polish artist, studied theatre design and sculpture at the Academy of Fine Art, Dusseldorf. Through her on-going practice within both of these genres, we see an interesting mix of ideas and themes emerge.
Agatowska's forms and choice and use of materials owe a debt to constructivism. In Removal to Mars 1 & 2 the honed down facets glorify the machine and the scientific world's achievement of getting man not only to fly but also to travel in space. Agatowska's work is not so much concerned with particular physical laws and constants but more with the net result of mans scientific endeavours. It is the human aspect of discovery that is Agatowska’s area of interest.
At the start of every discovery there is the childs question 'Why?' and it is this we see explored in her practice. In “Removal to Mars “we see a child’s and cat’s faces encased in their rocket, looking out, looking beyond the physical constraints of the engineering and scientific skill that surrounds them. Their focus is on something bigger, a more fundamental question, what is out there?, how did we get here? There is playfulness to the work that reminds us of what it is to be a child and to look at our world with innocent interest. She has captured the essence of the imagination that triggers the work of so many great scientists.
Yes, these are homages to technology and science but they crown mans sovereignity overall - only man has the imagination to question, investigate and materialise the unknown.

Agata Agatowska is a talented young sculptor whose independent figurative sculptures marked by a dark isolation have been awarded prizes many times.
Her works contain an inner cohesion and create a moving language of forms by a concentration of content and a formal reduction.
Agatowska reveals the relationship and dependence between scultpure and pantomine included in spatial relationships.
It is with great interest that I observe her artistic development and I am convinced that thanks to her unusually interesting artistic creativity and active interest in the contemporary view of man and the world she is fully qualified to receive the scholarship of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland.
